A winter with Puccini in New York and Frankfurt

HymeThis January, Bryan Hymel returns to the Metropolitan Opera following his surprise debut in the company’s 2012 production of Les Troyens, a debut in which the New York Times praised his “impassioned and confident performance of a heroic role that dominates this formidable French opera.”

In his sophomore outing with the Met, Bryan sings the role of Puccini’s ardent antihero, Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton in Madama ButterflyJanuary 16–February 1. Under the baton of Philippe Auguin, Bryan stars opposite Met debutant Amanda Echalaz as Cio-Cio San in Anthony Minghella’s lush and colorful production.

On February 16 and 18, Bryan sings another Puccini role as the title character the composer’s second opera, EdgarBryan performs the work in concert at Oper Frankfurt with conductor Marc Soustrot. Rounding out the opera’s central love triangle are Angela Meade as Fidelia and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as Tigrana. For more on Bryan’s schedule, click here.
