Bryan opens New Orleans Opera season as Don José
This weekend, Bryan Hymel sings Don José in the New Orleans Opera Association’s production of Carmen. The American tenor returns to his hometown following an acclaimed run of La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera, where he was described by the New York Observer as “one of the Met’s most promising young stars…his phrasing is generous and romantic, and his top B-flats and C’s as brilliant as fireworks. He’s an unusually sympathetic actor, too.”
In Louisiana, Bryan stars opposite his wife, soprano Irini Kyriakidou, as Micaela, bass Oren Gradus as Escamillo, and mezzo-soprano Géraldine Chauvet in the title role. The production opens the New Orleans Opera’s 2014-15 season.
