Discover Bryan Hymel in La Scala’s triumphant Madama Butterfly
Opening the Teatro alla Scala’s 2016-17 season, Bryan Hymel takes the stage in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. The production, a reprisal of the original 1904 version, received a 14 minute ovation from the Milanese audience.
Bachtrack praised the American tenor’s performance as Pinkerton, his voice “ringing out thrillingly at the end, the naval officer discovering Butterfly’s suicide and then, removing the child’s blindfold, seeing his son for the first time on the dramatic closing chords.”
Riccardo Chailly leads the Teatro alla Scala Chorus and Orchestra in the new staging by Alvis Hermanis, which also features Maria José Siri, Annalisa Stroppa, Nicole Brandolino and Carlos Álvarez. Bryan returns to the Teatro alla Scala stage for additional performances on December 10, 13, 16, 18, and 23, and January 3, and 8.
