2017-18 Season Brings Bryan Hymel Back to London and New York

Bryan Hymel begins the 2017-18 season with two concert performances of Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust at Barbican Hall on September 17 & 19. Part of the Barbican’s “This Is Rattle” series, the concerts are conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and also feature Karen Cargill, Gerald Finley, and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Later in the fall, Bryan returns to the Royal Opera House, singing the role of Henri in Stefan Herheim’s production of Les Vêpres Siciliennes. Praised for his ability to “effortlessly navigate the high-lying tenor role” (The Telegraph), Bryan is joined by Malin Byström, Rachele Stanisci, Michael Volle, and Erwin Schrott for this production conducted by Maurizio Benini. Performances run October 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 31, and November 4.

Following Les Vêpres Siciliennes, Bryan joins mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča for Cavalleria Rusticana in Damiano Michieletto’s Olivier Award-winning production, which runs from November 9 to January 9.

In February, Bryan once again joins Elīna Garanča for three performances of Carmen at Bayerische Staatsoper. Bryan’s Don José has been praised worldwide, with The Globe and Mail celebrating his “passionate and thrillingly sung” performance and Bachtrack hailing his “vast reserves of power”. Directed by Lina Wermüller, this production also features Alexander Vindogradov and Ailyn Pérez, and is conducted by Karel Mark Chichon.

The American tenor then returns to Les Vêpres Siciliennes for five performances in March at Bayerische Staatsoper.

Beginning on April 23, Bryan sings Roméo in Bartlett Sher’s production of Roméo et Juliette at the Metropolitan Opera. He is joined by Ailyn Pérez, Karine Deshayes, Joshua Hopkins and Kwangchul Youn for six performances conducted by Plácido Domingo.

Bryan closes the 2017-18 season with five performances of Faust at Deutsche Oper Berlin in a production directed by Philipp Stölzl. Led by conductor Jacques Lacombe, the production also features Alex Esposito, Nicolas Testé, Diana Damrau, and Nicole Car.
