Bryan Hymel triumphs in Metropolitan Opera debut

news-item-2The New York Times has hailed Bryan Hymel’s “impassioned and confident performance” in Berlioz’s Les Troyens at the Metropolitan Opera – the American tenor’s debut at the iconic American house. Bryan shined as the Trojan hero Aeneas, singing with “unflagging stamina and impetuous abandon” and bringing his “dark hued and muscular” voice to what Anthony Tommasini considers “one of the most difficult of all tenor challenges.” His rapport with mezzo-soprano Susan Graham – who sings Dido, Queen of Carthage – elicited “soaring lyricism and melting sound” from the stage.

You can watch Bryan in his Met debut performances Live in HD this Saturday, January 5, when the iconic New York house broadcasts this celebrated production of Berlioz’s epic opera to cinemas worldwide. Get your seats here.
